RealThermo Database – Scientific Building Dynamics
What the database is
The RealThermo database is a scientific collection of real thermal building data. It documents the actual dynamics of buildings over long periods, thus providing a manufacturer-neutral reference basis for research, planning, and product development. The database grows continuously and is fed exclusively with real measurements collected and scientifically processed using the RealThermo method.
Why it exists
Buildings behave very differently in terms of temperature – depending on their construction, mass, use, climate, and historical characteristics. Standards and theoretical models can only partially reflect this reality. The RealThermo database exists to close this gap:
- through real time series instead of theoretical assumptions
- through real building dynamics instead of model values
- through scientific classification instead of estimates
It creates an objective basis that is equally valuable for manufacturers, universities and planners.
What data it contains
The database comprises four categories of scientifically processed measurement data:
1. Building profile
Building age, construction method, use, climate, location.
2. Dynamikprofil (Dynamics)
Time constant τ, storage factor S, cooling rate k, reaction behavior, daily temperature profiles.
3. Lastprofil (Load)
Zone profiles, temperature distributions, loss profiles, storage effect.
4. Operational physics (optional)
Modulation, defrost cycles, control responses, storage behavior in heat pump operation.
All data is anonymized, scientifically filtered, and structured.
Why it is manufacturer-neutral
The thermal reality of a building does not depend on the heat pump manufacturer. It is determined by:
- Lot
- Building physics
- use
- Climate
- historical structure
Therefore, the database is completely manufacturer-neutral. It describes the building – not the device.
Manufacturers can use the data regardless of the installed heat pump.
Why it is scientific
The database is based on:
- real measurements over weeks and months
- scientific filtering and data processing
- clearly defined measurement parameters
- reproducible methods
- Validation by external scientific partners
Each data record follows a fixed structure and is classified according to scientific criteria. This makes the database citable, comparable, and methodologically sound.
Why it is commercially valuable
The database is a future premium product from RealThermo.
It offers a value that manufacturers, universities and institutions cannot create themselves:
- real building dynamics
- real Lastprofile
- real storage effect
- real operational physics
- real zone characteristics
This data is extremely expensive to collect and strategically important for manufacturers:
- for product development
- for regulatory strategies
- for modulation window
- for defrost algorithms
- for research and validation
Therefore, the database will later be made accessible via licensing models.
Who it is intended for
Manufacturer
For the development of better regulations, modulation strategies and product optimizations.
Universities & Research Institutions
